Homemade for the Holidays: A Gift Guide for the DIY’er – Part 1

Welcome to Homemade for the Holidays – Part 1! For the next three weeks, I will be sharing my favorite tried-and-true homemade gifts for anyone on your list this holiday season. Each of these recipes will include a product list and detailed directions to make your gift-giving as simple – and personal! – as possible. All of these gifts were created with the DIY’er in mind, so if you’re not into the homemade gift-giving scene, be sure to stay tuned for my upcoming blog entries on gift bundles that require zero do-it-yourself skills! 

With that said, let’s get started! 

Winter Wonderland Room Spray

This great combo is sure to freshen and clean the air while leaving your home smelling like the holidays. For an added seasonal boost, add 5-6 drops of Cinnamon essential oil. You’re welcome!

SUPPLIES:
  • 8 oz. glass spray bottle
  • 3 oz. rubbing alcohol
  • 1 1/2 cup distilled water
  • Peppermint and Thieves essential oil
  • Funnel
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Mix 10 drops of Thieves and 10 drops of Peppermint to 3 oz. of rubbing alcohol in a glass bowl.
  2. Add 1 and 1/2 cups distilled water to your oil mixture.
  3. Shake, shake, shake!
  4. Add a super cute seasonal giftwrap.

So Fresh and So Clean, Clean Reed Diffuser

 This powerful duo is sure to leave any room smelling clean and lemony fresh along with giving you an energizing boost!

SUPPLIES:
  • 1 Pint sized Mason jar or glass container with lid
  • 6-8 reed diffusing sticks
  • 1 cup almond or fractionated coconut oil
  • Purification and Lemon essential oils
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Mix the almond/coconut oil and essential oils together in a glass bowl.
  2. Pour the mixture into your Mason jar and seal with a lid.
  3. Decorate your jar and/or lid with fabric, ribbon, or twine. Include reed diffusing sticks in your gift packaging!

Cinnamon Orange Bath Salts

These invigorating oils will leave your bath smelling like a hot baked pie on Thanksgiving morning! The cinnamon combined with orange is bound to help wake you up and give you an extra motivated boost!

SUPPLIES:
  • 1 pint-sized Mason jar
  • 2 cups Epsom salts
  • Cinnamon and Orange essential oils
  • Cinnamon sticks (to tie on for gift-giving decor)
DIRECTIONS:
  1. In a glass bowl, mix 2 cups of Epsom salts with 15 drops of Orange and 10 drops of Cinnamon essential oils.
  2. Pour mixture into Mason jar.
  3. Top with lid and add gift wrap.

Bath Salt Ornaments

This super sweet ornament filled with oily goodness can have different benefits depending on the oil you choose to infuse. It’s totally up to you on this one! Some awesome options include: Lavender, Peppermint, Stress Away, RC, PanAway, and Copaiba.

SUPPLIES:
  • Glass ornament (preferably clear)
  • 1 cup Epsom salt (depending on the size of your ornament)
  • Essential oil of choice
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Mix about 1 cup Epsom slats with 10 drops of desired essential oil in a glass bowl.
  2. Add mixture to glass ornament.
  3. Gift wrap and give!

 

And that’s a wrap. Well, just for today that is! From bath salt to diffuser blends and even a festive room spray, these DIY recipes make the perfect gifts for teachers, friends, and anyone you love. You could even include them as “bonus gifts” tied onto your packages to make your gifts an even greater hit! And I promise I won’t tell if you simply whip these up for yourself because honestly, I encourage it!
