My name is Kara Rittenhouse. I am a Certified Nutrition & Wellness Consultant, Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. I own my own business Rit-Fit Nutrition & Wellness, LLC which is located in Charleston, SC. I am married, my husband Mark is a Naval Officer currently teaching at The Citadel with the ROTC Unit. We have three children Keaolani age 10, Kai age 5 1/2, Keanu age 3.
I was actually introduced to EOs about five years ago, shortly after Kai (my middle child) was born. My husband and I were at a race packet pick up and trade show in Hawaii, when a nice man introduced me to EO’s and all their uses. Kai was pretty congested that day and he had rubbed some peppermint in his hands and let Kai smell it, we could hear him clear up pretty quick. Unfortunately, I wasn’t going to pay over $250 for his kit, but the idea that something more was out there was planted in my head. Over the last 5 years I looked into them every so often. I was intrigued and curious but also fearful to try them out. It seemed daunting to me to learn something so different then what I was used to growing up. Now let’s fast forward to this past fall/winter. I was beyond sleep deprived; my two boys were keeping me up at night. One would wake and then 5 minutes after I got one back to sleep, the next one would wake. This would happen sometimes 2-3 times a night! I was desperate, so went to the health food store looking for a particular supplement. I didn’t see one suitable for children, so I asked someone who worked there. Now, if you know me I usually do more research or look into things, but I did zero research on this before I went to the store. The lady who was working there was a naturopathic doctor and let me tell you she schooled me! She let me know that this particular supplement is actually something that our bodies produce naturally, but when you use it as a supplement you reduce your body’s ability to make it. That meant I should definitely not give it to my kids. My fear of trying essential oils was quickly put aside since I almost destroyed their ability to produce a hormone naturally by giving them a supplement! She was nice enough to suggest a lavender oil spray (1 oz glass bottle, 1 part water, 2 parts alcohol and 10-20 drops of lavender) as well as some other tips like limited screen time after dark. So I bought a bottle of organic lavender essential oil and glass spray bottle. I mixed it up and sprayed their pillows at bed time. That first night both my boys slept through the night, so needless to say I was quite impressed! My research into essential oils and all they could be used for went into high gear, but I discovered so much more information then I knew even mattered! For example, how and where the plants grow can affect the oils. There are also different types of plants in the same family and they can have different uses – so not all lavender plants are the same. I discovered that there are different ways to extract essential oils and then I found out that some companies dilute their product with other compounds. After I found Young Living and learned about their standard for essential oil purity, authenticity, and their Seed to Seal Guarantee, I became an exclusive Young Living Essential Oil user. I will never trust any other oil around my family, myself, and especially amazing clients.
Since then we have become a full blown oil family! I use oils every day. I use oils as first aid, for cleaning, to calm down my kids & help them rest, to de-stress, post workout, and so much more. I find I can’t stop talking about my oils and that causes others to ask questions. What are these oils you are talking about so much? How do they work? What can you use them for? Is there an oil for “that”? So if you have those same questions, please contact me by clicking HERE – I love sharing my passion for Young Living Essential Oils!
